Sarae is a branding and visual identity concept for an online market place specialising in peer to peer sale of new and second-hand women’s wear.

 

The name “Sarae” is derived from the Persian word “kārvānsarāy”, which is a compound word combining kārvān “caravan” with sarāy “palace”, or the more literal translation of “building with enclosed courts”.

 

As a platform designed to connect merchants with buyers, the name “Sarae” directly references the original Silk Road. Along which, merchants would set up stalls and sell their wares to passing travellers.

 

The brand draws on these exotic notions of the Middle East.
